Rhône Valley
The Rhône Valley is a major wine-producing region in southeastern France stretching for approximately 150 miles along the Rhône River from Lyon to the Mediterranean Sea. The region is divided into Northern Rhône (known for Syrah-based reds and Viognier whites) and Southern Rhône (famous for GSM blends - Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre - and Châteauneuf-du-Pape). The Northern Rhône features a continental climate with steep granite slopes, while the Southern Rhône has a Mediterranean climate with flatter terrain, both areas producing distinctive wines shaped by their unique terroir.
