Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a prestigious wine appellation in the southern Rhône Valley of France, characterized by its unique terroir of large rounded pebbles ('galets roulés') that store heat during the day and release it at night in the Mediterranean climate. The appellation permits 13 grape varieties, with Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre dominating the reds which are typically full-bodied, rich and spicy, while white wines (only about 7% of production) are made primarily from Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, and Clairette.
