La Cartuja

PrioratKnown for: Garnacha and Cariñena (Carignan) based wines grown on llicorella slate soils

La Cartuja is a wine project created by the Gil Family Estates in the prestigious Priorat region of Spain. The wine is named after a Carthusian monastery called 'La Cartuja de Escaladei' which was established in the 12th century in Priorat. Their flagship wine, La Cartuja Priorat, is made primarily from Garnacha and Cariñena (Carignan) grapes grown on the region's characteristic slate soils known as 'llicorella'.
