Roussillon

Roussillon is a wine region in southern France bordering Spain and the Mediterranean, characterized by hot, dry climate and diverse soils including schist, granite, and limestone. The region primarily produces Grenache (red, white, and gris), Carignan, Syrah, and Mourvèdre for reds, and Macabeo, Grenache Blanc, and Roussanne for whites, with a strong tradition of fortified sweet wines (Vins Doux Naturels) like Banyuls and Maury. Historically linked with Languedoc but now recognized for its distinct identity, Roussillon has experienced a quality revolution in recent decades with producers focusing on lower yields and terroir-driven wines.
