Côtes du Rhône

The Côtes du Rhône is a major wine-producing region in southeastern France that stretches along the Rhône River from Lyon to Avignon. The region is divided into northern and southern sub-regions, each with distinct terroirs - with the north featuring steep granite slopes producing Syrah-based reds and the south having a Mediterranean climate ideal for Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre blends. The appellation produces primarily bold red wines (about 80% of production) with rich fruit flavors, though whites (from Viognier, Marsanne, and Roussanne) and rosés are also made.
