Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC is a wine appellation spanning across all four provinces of Italy's Abruzzo region, primarily along the central and coastal areas where the Apennine Mountains meet the Adriatic Sea. The region benefits from a diverse terroir, with warm coastal influences and cooling mountain effects, clay-limestone soils, and significant diurnal temperature variations that promote optimal ripening of the Montepulciano grape, the principal variety grown here.
