Riverland

The Riverland is Australia's largest wine-producing region by volume, located along the Murray River in South Australia about 250km northeast of Adelaide. It has a hot, continental climate with low rainfall, making irrigation from the Murray River essential for viticulture. While historically known for bulk wine production, the region primarily grows heat-tolerant varieties including Chardonnay, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot, with increasing focus on Mediterranean varieties like Vermentino, Fiano, and Tempranillo that are well-suited to the warm climate.
