Alto Adige

Alto Adige (also known as Südtirol) is a mountainous wine region in northern Italy bordering Austria and Switzerland, characterized by Alpine influences with dramatic temperature variations between day and night. The region produces distinctive aromatic white wines from varieties like Gewürztraminer, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Bianco, and Chardonnay, while also crafting excellent reds from Pinot Noir (Blauburgunder), Lagrein, and Schiava (Vernatsch). Wine production here benefits from the unique terroir of high-altitude vineyards (up to 3,300 feet) situated on sunny mountain slopes with well-draining soils, resulting in wines with remarkable freshness, aromatic complexity and precision.
